A candidate texted me this morning to cancel his Interview. Not a good practice honestly...

BUT, this time is different, I think he had a legitimate reason.

"I am so sorry Keith, I need to cancel the Interview today. Because...

I can't sleep last night, I feel stressed and overwhelmed by the Interview preparation!!

I really love this job and have major anxiety about not getting this.

Literally, been awake the whole night and thinking about the Interview questions.

I know this really looks bad, however, can you please help to reschedule to another day? 🙏"

My Thoughts:

- Not a shame and no feelings hurt. We are all human beings and thanks for the transparency.

- Can absolutely reschedule to another day and does not affect the Interviewer. Let the HR and Recruiter handle it.

- Need to take care of yourself first, particularly mental health. Sleep is the most important thing in our life.

- Interviews might be stressful but if you reframe them as just a conversation, it might ease the nerves.

- Candidate want the job, and Interviewers want to hire. We are equal and have a common goal here, so no need to worry too much.

At the end of the day, after the Interview, you will have 1 more Friend (or business connection) in your life! Take it easy!!

Agree? What are your thoughts?
